Here are some of Heidelberg’s cultural happenings in 2012:
January 18 – February 4, 2012 – Carambolage: This event is two weeks of laughter over comedy, cabaret, music and stand-up. Carambolage 2012 will feature Michael Quast, Tina Teubner, Gardi Hutter, Vince Ebert, Sebastian Puffpaff, Matthias Deutschmann, The Incredible Herrengedeck, Hagen Rether and Josef Hader.
March 23 – April 29, 2012 – Heidelberg Spring Festival: This popular international music festival featuring renowned artists attracts cultural travelers from around the world.
June 17 – July 28, 2012 – Heidelberg Castle Festival: The romantic Heidelberg Castle is the location for stunning stage productions. There will be a varied performance program with the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra and The Young Theater.
July 21 – July 28, 2012 – Bach Festival – Bach Week: In the Holy Ghost Church (above), these Bach festival concerts mark the anniversary of Bach’s death on July 28.
November 10 – 22, 2012 – Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival: One of the oldest international film festivals in the world, The Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival is devoted to new talents, showing only films which have never before played at international film festival. Film directors who have been “discovered” here include François Truffaut, Wim Wenders, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Jim Jarmusch, Lars von Trier, Bryan Singer and Thomas Vinterberg.
