Iceland’s latest airline WOW Air is preparing to launch in spring 2012.
The airline will start flying from London-Stansted to Iceland’s main airport at Keflavik three times a week from June 1, 2012.
One-way WOW Air fares are starting from £68 each way and include a baggage allowance of 20 kg per passenger.
The airline will also fly two 168-seat Airbus A320s from Iceland to 11 other European cities including Copenhagen, Warsaw, Krakow, Berlin, Stuttgart, Cologne, Zurich, Basle, Paris, Lyon and Alicante.
“We are a new and fresh business and will focus on passenger comfort,” says Gudmundur Arnar, chief marketing officer at WOW Air.
“We believe customers will feel it is a fun experience traveling with us, while also enjoying low fares to one of the world’s most fascinating destinations.”
This winter, the company reports that Iceland’s tourist industry is booming with a 12 per cent increase in UK tourists in 2011, compared to 2010. In January 2012, statistics showed a 53.7 per cent increase in UK visitor numbers, especially to the Iceland’s Northern Lights displays in years.
Currently, WOW Air has launched a recruitment campaign for cabin crew which has been met with a strong response by candidates in Europe.
